Darkness We Hold

in a world once loved with light

but now utter darkness

where all day seems all night

to those lost to night

it seems that such dark

is not quite as dim

for those lacking spark –

without knowing

and feeling

and want of daylight.

Now Darkness –

Unloving, Uncaring, Uninterested Dark.

And for those who recall

that sure summer sun

and damp dewy dawns

of heart-thawing warmth

and sweet summer’s kiss,

this night that they live

is such dark reminisce.

Uncaring, unknowing, uninterested dark.

But the dark tragedy

is that those most darkened

by unloving, uncaring, and uninterested night

are themselves this bleak darkness

that dreams but cannot love light.
