Days Long Past

On days now long past

souls gaze back

At last

Onto what once was

And hope will again

Revive what was back then

When the sun seemed so bright

And the stars strung at night

Sure seemed so bright

And right

For all who held sight.

And now,

Not but

We see such same sights

And lights

Of native eyes’ sights

And wonder when

And how such sights dimmed.

Of course,

All lights fade –

But along with the night

New lights will arise

To sate our new sights.
