To Thirst

You’re drinking from an empty glass
And wondering why how long it’ll last.
And thirst for what you dream to drink
And grow weaker the more you think.

There’s many ways to die from thirst.
Parched throat and lips aren’t the worst:
To die from thirst, but live to die
And leave you with lone tears to cry.

There are worse pains to plague your soul;
Especially those you can’t control:
The ones you feel, but no one cares,
Because they’re pains you can’t compare.

What lets you live will make you stronger;
Until you can’t take it no longer.
